It's a hard-shell cowboy hat case built to do two jobs well — store a hat at home and travel with one. Hat cans haven't changed much in decades: bulky, awkward to carry, and they don't stack, so a collection eats a closet fast. This is the first real innovation in cowboy hat storage we've seen in a long time, and API built it by asking hat people what was actually wrong with the old ones.

What makes it better

  • Stackable. Store a collection vertically instead of losing a shelf to every hat.
  • Three ways to carry. Top handle, shoulder strap, or backpack-style — it's the rare hat carrier you can actually walk through an airport with.
  • Transparent top. See which hat is in which can without opening all of them.
  • Fits a 5-inch brim. Wide brims are exactly the hats standard cans won't take, and exactly the hats you least want crushed.
  • Rubber feet. Stays put in a truck bed or a closet instead of sliding into a wall.

The details you notice in person

The shell is smoke-tinted rather than clear — you can see the hat inside without the whole thing looking like a storage bin. A full-length hinge runs the back edge instead of the two small tabs that snap off most cases. The strap tabs are riveted with solid brass swivel clips, and there's a molded grab handle built into the shell itself.

It reads more like tack than luggage, which is the right call for something that's going to sit in a closet next to a $400 hat.

Made in Gainesville, Texas

We're honored to say this one is made in Gainesville, Texas by our friends at API. Not imported, not sourced overseas — molded a few hours down the road by people who care about getting it right.

Who it's for

Anybody rotating a felt hat out for summer or a straw out for winter, anybody who travels with a good hat, and anybody who has ever come back to find a hat sat on. Straw especially — a crushed straw hat is usually just a crushed straw hat.

Not sure whether your hat needs one? Read how to store a cowboy hat, or come by 2218 N College Ave in Fayetteville and pick one up — the difference is obvious the second you do.
