Take a tape measure (a sewing tape measure works best, but not required).

Rest the tape approximately two fingers above your brow (about 1½") and about ⅛" above the ear. Right where the hat band would normally sit.

Tape should be firm but not tight. It should wrap straight across your mid-forehead.

Make sure it stays level all the way around your head (not dipping down behind your ears).

If you are in between sizes, go with the bigger size.

The felt is firm, so the shape survives a suitcase, a rental car, and whatever the weather does on the other end. Grosgrain ribbon around the base, sweatband inside. Stetson has been making hats since 1865, and the Stratoliner B is one of the shapes that shows the years.
